I was hoping to hear a first hand account of what it is like to hear and see an A10 make a pass with the GAU-8 Avenger.

How loud is the sound of the actual gun firing?
How far away was it?
How loud is the sounds of the rounds impacting and how close were they?
Do you know what kind of effect it had on the bad guys ie I guess the fear factor the A10 had and how it affected the fight?

Thanks to whoever can answer those questions. (First hand accounts only please)

playskoo may i ask why you are so interested in to knowing this? is there a real reason as to why you want to know? like you want to join you're country's army, or simply just curious?

just remember not all veterans or active army/marines etc have experienced this, maybe there is one or 2 here just maybe, but this can be delicate and maybe they do not want to talk about it.

Why are you asking this question? You can just go to the front page and search for an A-10 gun run. Just turn up your speakers as loud as they will go and make the video large screen and you will have your own experience.

Turn up the sound and listen, on the computer or a movie or the radio...........naaah.
Problem is that gatling type guns fire so fast they have no pop-pop or bang-bang sound. More of a buzzing.

If you really want to hear an A-10 gun, in complete safety, attend an airshow. Be sure they can fire the gun at the show you attend.
Yeh, they fire blanks and the explosions on the ground are fake,
but it is still the most realistic sounding answer you'll find.

The problem with a video is lack of perspective. We saw two A-10's flown between the hangers at Moffitt, an area not much wider than the runways and mostly below the level of the top of the giant blimp hangers. As our esteemed Vice President might exclaim; "this is a big fucking deal!" Big deal, indeed, especially for someone who knows airplanes, to see large aircraft so manuverable.

The video has a Skyraider, a huge Nam-era piston engined plane that is smaller than the A-10... and both are huge next to a P-51 or a Super Cub for that matter. Point is that without context airplanes, or anything else, loses meaning.
