Russia has admitted that 11 people arrested in the US on charges of spying for Moscow include its citizens, but denies that they acted against American interests. Vladimir Putin said that the FBI were ‘out of control’ and hoped bilateral relations would not be harmed. The FBI arrested ten members of the alleged sleeper cell on Sunday from a series of homes on the East coast of the US, while an eleventh – the alleged ringleader – was caught while trying to leave Cyprus early this morning. According to FBI documents, an investigation lasting more than a decade had uncovered evidence of a Cold War-style espionage circle aimed at penetrating the highest levels of US policymaking.
