6/24/2010 - SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFNS) -- Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan during operations June 23, according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here.
Air Operations in Afghanistan
Lashkar Gah
Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt II pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Pilots conducted a cannon-fire strafing run on an enemy tree-line position. On-scene joint terminal attack controllers called the engagement successful.
Sangin
Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Aircrews released precision-guided munitions and strafed enemy positions when friendly forces reported taking enemy fire. Aircrews conducted a show of force, with flares launched, to deter enemy activity. Ground controllers declared the engagements successful.
Moqor
Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcon pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Pilots conducted a show of force to deter enemy activity. On-scene joint terminal attack controllers called engagement successful.
Asadabad
F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Aircrews released precision-guided munitions against several enemy positions and
conducted a show of force to break hostile contact and deter further enemy activity. Ground controllers declared the actions successful.
Abchakan
F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and a friendly forces convoy. After the convoy encountered an improvised explosive device, aircrews conducted a show of force to deter further hostilities. Ground controllers declared the show of force successful when no further enemy activity was observed.
Kandahar
Navy FA-18F Super Hornet aircrews provided armed overwatch and a show of force for friendly forces, which ground controllers declared successful.
Qal-E-Naw
A-10 and F-16C pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and a friendly forces convoy. All pilots conducted shows of force with flares launched to deter enemy aggression. Ground controllers called the engagements successful.
