Interesting Novel "Apache"

I don't know if any of you have heard of, or read the book, but it's about a British Apache Pilot (Ed Macy). Anyways, it's full of action but the most insane thing is the story about how he and his wingman picked up 4 British Marines to fly on the side of the Apache in order to rescue a fellow Marine. They got to him and then strapped him onto the side and the other guys had to hold on for dear life while they pulled out. All this was during an intense fire fight, but with cover from two other Apaches and an A-10 followed by a B1-B.

Just wondering if this is the only time this has happened in combat and if anybody else has heard of this before?
