A SOLDIER was left fighting for life by a brutal attack - just seven hours after returning from Afghanistan.
Brave David Grout, 22, arrived home from his THIRD gruelling tour of the warzone at around noon on Tuesday.

But at 6.32pm a thug punched him to the floor as he celebrated.
David was rushed to hospital with bleeding on the brain. Last night he was "critical" and in a coma.
A furious relative said: "He made it through a warzone unscathed to come back and be put in hospital by scumbags. If they think they are big men, they should go to Afghanistan and see what real men are like."
David's wife Kerry - mum of his 22-month-old son Harley - wrote on a website: "Can't stop crying and thinking of my babe lying there helpless."

The soldier, of the 204 Royal Signals Regiment, went with his mum and stepdad to the Eston Institute, Teesside, after coming home.
He popped outside for a cigarette and was found unconscious eight minutes later. Police believe the attacker knew David. Two men were seen running from the area.
The signaller had earlier told his family he couldn't wait to be home. He wrote on his Facebook profile: "Love my wife and son so very much. I can't wait to come home and hold you both so close."
A 19-year-old man was being questioned last night on suspicion of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Mindless thugs make my angry, these twats should be sent out to Afghanistan.
locating I.E.D's. Sad thing is, they will get a very, very light sentence.
Not necessarily a custodial sentence.
His poor family must be wondering why we are fighting in Afghanistan.
If this is the society they are protecting.
My very best wishes mate, and my best to all your family at this time.
Be strong, there are a lot of people out there, who think as I do, chin up.
