An elderly have-a-go-hero in the U.S. is recovering after being shot four times while tackling an armed robber.
CCTV footage captured the dramatic moment the man, who is in his 60s, leapt into action to save the life of a terrified store clerk.
As the robber points a handgun at female shop assistant, the have-a-go hero creeps up behind him and smashes a beer bottle over his head.

The robber is momentarily stunned, but recovers to open fire four times as he grapples with the elderly customer before fleeing empty handed.
Police in Virginia said the selfless act almost certainly saved the life of the store clerk.
They revealed the raider had already fired two warning shots when the clerk was unable to open the till.
'If it wasn't for him I'd be dead,' said the clerk, who didn't want to be identified.

'That guy would have shot me. He had already shot next to my feet twice.'
Police have not named the have-a-go hero but said he is not in a life-threatening condition.
He suffered gun shot wounds to the head, legs and shoulder.
On the surveillance footage he is seen staggering about, clutching his hand to his head.
The shooting incident took place at a convenience store in Caroline County, Virginia.
Surveillance cameras captured the robber waving a black pistol in the face of the female clerk at the Mr Fuel convenience store.

The have-a-go-hero enters the store and walks down an aisle behind the robber where he picks up two beer bottles.
Moments later he creeps up behind the robber and slams a bottle over his head.
In the ensuing struggle the robber opens fire while his attacker is on the ground.
Police are hopeful of tracing the robber as he left behind a pair of prescription sunglasses.
Gary Poland, manager of the store, said: 'I think it was very brave of the customer, first doing what he did, and a good Samaritan doing that for us.
'If it wasn't for him I think something terrible could have happened.'
