5/10/2010 - SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFNS) -- Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and International Security Assistance Force troops in Afghanistan during operations May 9, according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here.

Asadabad
An Air Force B-1B Lancer aircrew provided armed overwatch and close air support for friendly forces and a friendly-forces convoy previously hit with an improvised explosive device. Friendly forces reported receiving enemy fire and the aircrew observed several enemy positions actively engaged against friendly forces. The aircrew released precision-guided munitions, destroying enemy positions. A show of presence was conducted over the convoy. On-scene joint terminal attack controllers declared the actions

Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt II pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The pilots observed an improvised explosive device detonation and conducted shows of force, with flares launched, that ground controllers declared successful.
