ATLANTA — A Veterans Administration doctor in suburban Atlanta has been indicted in federal court after being accused of sexually assaulting a female patient.
U.S. Attorney Sally Quillian Yates said Wednesday that 46-year-old Devashish Ray of Alpharetta has been charged with sexual assault on a patient, sexual assault and making false statements to investigators. Authorities say Ray forced the patient to undergo a breast examination and tried to convince her she needed a pelvic exam.
Authorities say Ray later asked a nurse to lie to investigators about the Nov. 17, 2008 exam, and he himself told investigators he had only examined the patient’s abdominal area.
Ray is out on bond. Peter Odom, counsel to Ray, says his client maintains his innocence.
VA officials referred questions to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
