What do you guys think about the way Germans treated the citizens in the country they occupied? Do you think it was only SS or did the Wehrmacht their bit as well?

Well, a good book to read is called "Hitler's willing executioners" details events that the Wehrmacht captured and held prisoners to for the Einsatzgruppen to arrive...and aslo assisted in the mass killings as well.

Now for the public humiliation done to the Jews.....everyone participated, even children.

It seems to be a popular and growing belief these days that the regular German soldier was just an innocent individual who was caught up in the whirlwind of war. While the SS was the most cruel and well known organization in Nazi Germany, the Werhmacht were not exactly saints by any stretch of the imagination.

Where to begin when it came to war crimes committed by the Wehrmacht or by those "simple" German soldiers?

The Vinkt Massacre.

The Czestochowa Massacre.

The Ciepielow Massacre.

The Kondomari Massacre.

The Mesovouno Massacre.

The Warsaw Ghetto. Regular German soldiers stood side by side with the SS to help "clear out" the town.

The Kalavryta Massacre (Jager Divisions).

The Frankolovo Massacre.

The Kragujevac Massacre.

To name just a few of the war crimes committed by non-SS units on civilians.

However there were those Germans who did not participate in these acts.....not all of the German soldiers were good little Nazis. Not saying that all of them were cold blooded killers but there are always exceptions to the rules. Case in point the Kriegsmarine...despised Hitler and the Nazis.

No doubt. Not every single soldier in the Third Reich took part in these massacre's and after Stalingrad there were less and less of those good little Nazi's because the war was looking less and less winnable by the day. Many started to distance themselves from the Nazi views and giving up on the idea of making our world that beautiful little Aryan world that so many in that country wanted at the time.

So while not every German soldier was a hardcore Nazi, I still believe the great majority were.

I know what you are saying and I get it. Most of those hardcore Nazis died during the war. However....Americans did sympathize with the Germans because of the treaty of Versailles after WW1 which bankrupted the German government and left the poplulace poor and angry. It was a powder keg overflowiing with shame and hate. All it took was a simple spark to set it off. I always wonder where we would be had the Treaty of Versailles been a little more lenient in the paying for the total cost of the war.

Warfare, by its nature is cruel.....but intentional cruelty when it is not necessary is an abomination.
