A Polish soldier has been killed in fighting with Taliban insurgents in Afghanistan.
Lt. Col. Dariusz Kacperczyk, an armed forces spokesman, says Private Michal Kolek was shot Saturday after he and other soldiers were called in to support a Polish patrol that was attacked in central Ghazni province.
The death of the 22-year-old Kolek brings to 16 the number of Polish troops who have been killed in Afghanistan since their mission started in 2002.
Poland is to reinforce its contingent of some 2,000 troops in Ghazni in March by adding another 600 soldiers.
