RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) -- A Saudi official says two members of al-Qaida and a soldier have been killed in a shootout in southern Saudi Arabia.
Interior Ministry spokesman Brig. Gen. Mansour al-Turki says security forces stopped a car carrying three militants Tuesday at a checkpoint in the region of Jizan. He says two of them were disguised as women, and the three opened fire as their vehicle was about to be searched.
The official says two of the passengers were wearing explosives vests, and hand grenades and machine-guns were found in the car.
Saudi Arabia has cracked down on al-Qaida, killing or capturing most of its leaders in the country after a string of attacks that started in 2003.
