Four Finnish soldiers were wounded when their patrol vehicle hit an explosive device about 40 kilometres west of Mazari Sharif in northern Afghanistan on Saturday, the Finnish Defence Forces said in a statement.
The military said that one of the soldiers had been seriously wounded in the leg and added that all four had been flown to a German field hospital.
Lauri Inna, a spokesman at the Finnish army headquarters, said that although Finnish troops had come under fire about a dozen times this year, Saturday's explosion was the first time Finnish troops had been wounded.
Finland's commitment in Afghanistan comprises about 200 troops serving under Swedish command as part of the Nato-led International Security Assistance Force.
