Washington, 3 September (WashingtonTV)—Two American soldiers were killed by a roadside bomb in southern Afghanistan, the NATO mission in Afghanistan said on Thursday.
Separately, the UK Ministry of Defense said today that two British soldiers were also killed in the southern Helmand province – a Taliban stronghold.
One of the British soldiers died as a result of a gunshot wound he sustai More..ned while on foot patrol in the Babaji district today.
The other soldier, who served with the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, was caught in an ambush in Babaji district on Wednesday.
The latest deaths bring the death toll of British troops serving in Afghanistan since 2001 to 212, according to AFP.
The U.S. and Britain have suffered high losses since early July, when they launched operations against Taliban militants in Helmand, in an effort to secure the province ahead of the 20 August election.
August was the deadliest month for American forces since the start of the war nearly eight years ago, with 47 deaths.
There are some 63,000 US soldiers serving in Afghanistan, and about 9,000 British troops.
