Hmm. Nice pics. I think these guys are probably 'Task Force Black'. It's a unit comprised of some of the best clandestine special ops forces out there. CIA Special Activities, SFOD-D("Delta Force"), DEVGRU("SEAL Team Six"), SAS, and SBS. These are some badass motherfuckers.
Great pics.

Great pictures, but part of me wishes these never got into the public sector.

true, you can google image SAS and get unsensored pictures of operators.
I've always wondered why the SAS use M4s. Is it because of the size or what?

UKSF use the Diemarco. It's for a range of reasons, size, weight, the fact that the SA-80A1 didn't work, you can fire the Diemarco on the left shoulder without removing some of your cheek and probably a bunch of other reasons too.

Meh, practically the same thing, still made by Colt. The quest still stands.

i guess we can only theorize why the use it, but one main reason is probably the fact that if you see a SF unit with SA80's its kinda easy to guess who they are.....
also here is a picture of a UK SFSG with SA80's and a 417:

Well I did ask one of the guys from UKSF who came to my unit to give us a bit of a recruitment presentation and show us some kit obviously including their rifles. The answers he gave me were as I said above really, I also think he mentioned the quad rails on the hand guard (this was before the new hand guard for the SA-80), and also the position of the safety catch and change lever on the SA-80 is shocking, whereas the thumb operated safety/change lever combo is much better.

The British SBS is roughly equivalent to the US Navy Seals, right?

Roughly, very roughly yes.

I have never understood the SAS and SBS are sworn enemies? There are enough bad guys out there to go around, that the country needs to kill.
Rivalry is one thing, dislike ans distrust is another. They both do us a great service. Well trained, well paid and well thought of.
The picture of in one of the tunnels in the mountains, is the furthest I've seen down them.

Prolly like our SEALS and Secial Forces Delta Detachment.
The SEALS claim oftentime that the Deltas are "spooky" and will piss off or bug out if there's something not right. The SEALS have lauded Delta for not being team players when it comes to sharing information and whatnot during operations that cross into each others bundaries.
Likewise, the Deltas and other SF guys have claimed that the SEALS will "show up on time, so they can put their $2,000 sunglasses on and pose for the cameras".
Prolly just a dick size contest between argumentative task commanders is all.

Your probably right, but our two groups have different types of officer and one definitely gets better transport and equipment.
Plus neither like to be given orders and boundaries. i.e. rules of engagement. Its ,"diva diva syndrome" all over again !!

Yea this was on a surveillance mission in the Naka Valley. It was in the early months of the war, before any serious conflict had started between the West and Taliban/AQA.
There is an image of a grey bearded man sitting alongside some of the SBS.
He was a CIA Operative who was pretty much there to report directly to the pentagon in the states on what they saw.

I remember reading in the "Sherrif of Ramadi," about how the SEALs said that
the Army Special Forces were basically assholes. They didn't share intel,
and were always just trying to destroy stuff, basically rambos.
IMO...
SEAL's = Ultimate Team Players
Delta = Whatever it takes to get the job done with no outside help
Army SF = Mini-Deltas
I think SBS and SAS are somewhere along the lines of SEALs and Delta, just like
Mick said.

The Army SF probably thought the same about the SEALs, there will always be rivalry between elite units, just take it with a pinch of salt.
