My ancestors were at that battle also.my ggg-grandfather survived as did his brother Robert. Thanks for your family loyalty to State rights over Federal tyranny.

Over the last two decades, I have been to Gettysburg, Manassas, Harper's Ferry, Corinth, Fredericksburg, Brice's Crossroads, Tupelo, Spotsylvania, Chancellorsville, Vicksburg, Fort Donelson/Fort Henry, Chattanooga, Shiloh, Antietam, Chickamauga, Franklin, Appomattox, Cole Harbor, Richmond, Murfreesboro, Fort Sumter/Fort Moultrie and Petersburg. When it comes to the most well preserved Civil War battlefields in the country, Shiloh and Antietam are the two I would suggest visiting.
Gettysburg is definately a must see if one has never been there, but it almost has an amusement park-type atmosphere to it anymore. On a good note, what Gettysburg has been doing over the years is planting forests, orchards and wheat fields that were there at the time of the battle. They are making a strong attempt at getting the field back to the way it looked in 1863 and the new museum is a nice addition.

Went there when i was 15 and loved the tours. They still have buildings with holes in them and cannon balls still embedded in there walls!! I would recommend it to everyone to go. And dont go for one day take 3 or 4 days!!
