OCRACOKE, N.C. -- A third worker has died after a fireworks truck exploded in a North Carolina town.Officials said the explosion happened on Ocracoke Island, near the south ferry terminal, Saturday at about 9:15 a.m.One worker died at the scene. A representative for a Chapel Hill burn center said a second worker died about six hours after the blast. Hyde County representative Jamie Tunnell said the worker died at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville late Saturday.

Anchorage Marina dock master Robert Raborn said the explosion was heard across Ocracoke village. Raborn said he was 200 yards away and it looked like 40 minutes worth of fireworks went off in four seconds.Hyde County sheriff's deputies said five people working with the fireworks production were near the truck when the explosion happened. Tunnell said everyone who was hurt on Saturday worked for Melrose Pyrotechnics of Rock Hill, S.C.Authorities said no danger remains.Ocracoke's fireworks display was scheduled for Saturday at 9 p.m.According to the village's Web site, Ocracoke has about 800 permanent residents. The island does not have any roads connecting it to the mainland. The main way on and off the island is the ferry service operated by the North Carolina Department of Transportation.
