Why would the pilot keep moving closer to the target when his weapon they are firing has a 1500m effective range, I felt like I was watching some training film on what not to do.

Maybe not apache pilots anymore as you would think they would have a minimum engagement range for this very situation. I remember the footage of a supercobra going down in gulf war 2 the same way when shooting up an unused airfield and hitting an ammo dump. Also with all the footage of ww2 planes gettting brought down by debris of steamtrains they have just blown up this lesson would be attack pilot 101 training.

This is similar but nowhere near as bad as the WWII gun cam footage showing the rear plane firing at a train the lead plane just strafed and while the lead plane flew along side the train the rear planes bullets detonate all the train cars killing the lead plane instantly thank god these guys seemed completely unharmed.

It was a practice range just out side a FOB, there was an ammo dump that was marked as a No fire zone. If you watch, the CPG (sounds pretty new) slaves to the correct target area, then shifts down to a hot spot, thinking that was the target. But it was about 1000m off, and was the ammo dump. Both were fine to my knowledge.
