Most of these soldiers die from radiation poisoning, go figurehttp://www.apacheclips.com/boards/vbtube/images/play_thread.png (http://www.apacheclips.com/boards/media/4859-Nevada-Atomic-bomb-test)

This was part of the 1950s Desert Rock testing program. Pretty sure this one is Desert Rock V 23 kilotons. Troops at 3,660 meters from ground zero. Nobody died from these test but surprise, surprise cancer and other health issues manifested up in til the 1980s. Health issues with the soldiers were about double from the predicted amount.
Other tests during the same period were more crazy then this one.
Why should the Army-Air force have all the fun. Lets give the ground guys a seat at the big table and thus the Atomic Cannon came to be and it tossed a 15 kt shell 7 miles. Misfires could have been a real bitch.

A friend was in the Navy during the tests in the Pacific, 1950's. He told me that when the bomb detonated, they were to head toward the blast in a landing craft and to keep going until the motor shut off! The motors shut off and in the '70's he died of cancer! Bet the statistics would be high on those who participated in the tests.

Well I think a lot of military people that know what has happened over the years especially to the guys that had to go through these tests not knowing but were gung ho and not knowing what was going to happen to them. they gave everything not knowing............but the government did!
