That's a very very cool quote Bob. It's funny but quotes like that have value to someone young such as I, it helps teach morals and build character. Believe it or not growing up in this day and age especially where I am from people just don't think this way. In my town in NY nobody talks of patriotism, most look down on military service. Everyone thinks it's all about cars, girls and money and nothing else. Many are snotty, pompous and somehow find pride and glory in the lives of past gangsters. People believe it's wealth that makes or breaks them.
I've always struggled with the feeling as a kid that everything has gone astray, that the value of being brave and honest have dwindled. People now want everything easy with bucketloads of unearned wealth. Who's out for some form of real journey these days? Thank god for the quotes such as these, they reaffirm that sometimes what you feel has often been felt by great men of the past.
Maybe i'm getting carried away but I hope time are a changing.

Congress can make no law which will not have its full operation on themselves and their friends, as well as on the great mass of society. This has always been deemed one of the strongest bonds by which human policy can connect the rulers and the people together It creates between them that communion of interests and sympathy of sentiments, of which few governments have furnished examples; but without which every government degenerates into tyanny... if this spirit shall ever be so far debased as to tolerate a law not obligatory on the legislature, as well as on the people, the people will be prepared to tolerate anything but liberty.

It serves always to distract the public councils and enfeeble the public administration. It agitates the community with ill-founded jealousies and false alarms; kindles the animosity of one part against another; foments occasionally riot and insurrection...A fire not to be quenched, it demands uniform vigilance to prevent its bursting into a flame, lest, instead of warming, it should consume.
