In any case, here is some video of ATGM's and other weapons blowing up armor. Definite snackbar warning.http://www.apacheclips.com/boards/vbtube/images/play_thread.png (http://www.apacheclips.com/boards/media/4500-ATGMs-in-Syria)

If they spent more time fighting and less time screaming about their god they may just get somewhere....

Sorry guys, question time again.

Why do certain projectiles not travel on a direct path to the target, but go up/down/left/right'?

Is it a target-tracking thing, an inbuilt feature to lessen the chance of intervention by another missile, or something totally different?

@junctiontwo
The reason certain Anti-Tank projectiles, move and jink as their heading down range. Is that their Wired-guided, that means there is a small thin wire attached to the missile, the gunner uses a joystick that is used to control the projectile.
If the gunner keeps the sights on the tank, then the missile will hit.

Thus endith the sermon.

Thanks dude, mystery solved.

@Vampir4 I might be nitpicking here, but the gunner doesn't use a joystick to correct the missiles path - the aiming device's computer makes the corrections automatically when the sight is kept at the target. The zig-zag flight pattern is also common for "beam riding" AT-missiles. Google "SACLOS" for more information on this types of missile guidances.

Btw. the first ATGM of the vid is a modernized "9K111 Fagot".

@KennyT There are some ATGM that use a joystick to control the missile, for instance the AT3-Sagger.

Fair enough, I was just thinking we are talking about the more modern systems like the 9K111 seen in the video with wire guided SACLOS system. You didn't really specify their difference so I just wanted to clear that up. :)

There is three different types one used a joystick another required the gunner to keep the sight on the target and the computer sends commands to the missle, and the other is the more modern fire and forget which the missile controls everything or is laser guided once the target is identified and explodes above the target firing its shaped charge down through the top of the vehicle where the armor is the thinnest like you see in some of the vids on here where they are showing test footage. I think what is really awesome is the systems that a few countries have developed to fight the atgm's it's pretty amazing you should watch the vids on you tube if you are not already familiar with these systems
