Hi to you Non Qualified bottom dwelling Scallywags. This most likely is a
first for the forum to have a Bubblehead in the ranks. I joined the Navy age
17 while in high school in 1976 age 17. I served a 6 year 8 month hitch in
Submarines completing 9 patrols. 4 in the Mediterranean Sea and 5 in the
North Atlantic Ocean. I am a Bluenose meaning I crossed the Artic Circle.
Any one that has not done this is a Scallywag, so says King Neptune!
My last patrol I was Sonar LPO (Leading Petty Officer) second largest
division on the ship. I have lived over 3 years underwater. My rate and
rank was STS1(SS) Sonar Technician Submarine First Class (SS) Qualified
in Submarines. I served on the USS Will Rogers SSBN 659 and the USS
George Washington Carver SSBN 656. These ships are Ballistic Submarines
with 16 Polaris missile. This is why they call them Boomer Submarines.
Tom Clancy states in his book The hunt for Red October the Captain of the
Submarine does not run the ship! The Sonar LPO does. Yea it was a job
I loved. Vary exciting cloak and dagger stuff. Needless to say everything
after is anti climactic.
