Private First Class Emory L. Bennett, B Company, 1st Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division, became the 74th Korean War Medal of Honor recipient. When two enemy battalions attacked his company in a ferocious charge, Bennett unhesitatingly left his foxhole, stood in full view of the enemy, and poured a withering fire into their ranks with his automatic rifle. Although wounded, he continued his one-man defense until the attack was momentarily halted. During this lull, B Company regrouped for counterattack, but the numerically superior foe soon infiltrated the position. Upon orders to move back, Bennett voluntarily remained to provide cover and continued to sweep the charging enemy with devastating fire until mortally wounded. His sacrifice saved the position from being overrun and enabled his company to orderly withdrawal.
