Guess they didn't get the memo about suicide bombers and stuff. They are a big target like this.

Very probable that Assad is shifting is Army around so troops do not end up fighting in their home towns.
Wait and see. The Rebels are getting better organized and recieving outside help with better weapons and stingers, etc etc.

Hmmm. Battalion sized element. Wonder where there pushing to. I think Assad grossly underestimated the size of the insurgency. And any insurgency that has access to shoulder mounted surface to air weapons is going to wreak havoc no matter how small that group is.

Assad is clearing damascus and pushing south to the border with jordan before winter comes. meanwhile he continues to contain the rebels in aleppo and push along the main highway through hama and homs from damascus. As he is able to control the south and seal off the border he will then be able to shift forces north and secure hama to homs and then aleppo and so. The outerlying outposts to the east like diez azor and others northwest are holding out by air support. This will take a long time and assad stated that very fact, but if he uses his military wisely and methodically gains control of areas and sets up security then moves to the next hotspot, things will change. he has a massive amount of artillery and afv, yes antiquated, but 120 mm -150mm round is still hot no matter what year you use it. NOT to mention aerial surviellance tech from iran/russia. i only support the gov. in this one because i know what happens when you let sunni fanatics take over a country... cough liby cough. fool me once...... shame on you.... fool me twice....

Both sides in this conflict actively served and funded groups in Iraq and Afghanistan, which have killed thousands of NATO soldiers. So fuck em, hope that armored column finds a few hundred to kill and then gets wiped out themselves.

I hope they kill what little foreign Wahabist scum may be in the FSA ranks, and I hope the FSA kill many Syrian soldiers who are helping to keep a terrorist Shiite regime in power. Hopefully a civilized people will come out of all this, but I highly doubt it as long as Islam is the prevailing religion in the region.

The rebels cannot win this war. Winning a war means achieving a three tier (tactical, operational, & strategic) victory. The rebels are simply fighting skirmishes, they don't follow a clear, concise chain of command and they have no unified political goal. Combat is only one stage of war & it is the only stage in which these disjointed rebels partake. The best the rebels could hope to achieve is keeping territorial control of the outskirts of Syria & becoming warlords in charge of large swaths of worthless, barren land masses. As soon as the Islamists joined the battle, the war was lost, because now no entity (US Gov't, NATO, etc) capable of a three tier victory is willing to back them.
