Happy 4th of July to those Americans who still appreciate and have respect for what we have. I was sent this and want to share it.
Don't have any plans for this years independence day celebration? One of our founding fathers has a few ideas... In a letter to his wife on July 3rd, 1776 John Adams wrote:
"The second day of July, 1776, will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more."
Congress later settled on the 4th of July (not the 2nd) to mark the celebration of our independence from a tyrannical government.
While we celebrate this great day in history let us think of our current situation and the encroachment of government into our modern lives. Are we as independent and free as John Adams was when he wrote that letter to his wife? Are we succumbing to a government that is slowly eroding our freedoms by telling us how we must conduct our daily lives? Are we being trodden upon by a government as tyrannical as the one we escaped in 1776? I think many people would answer yes to those questions which is why some of the historic elements from that time period have even greater meaning and understanding now than ever before.
The following two items are our way of celebrating this independence day. The Gadsden flag clearly states the sentiment of the marines who carried it into war as they fought against an oppressive government in an effort to gain independence. Today the phrase "Don't tread on me" and the symbolism of the rattlesnake seem more relevant than ever.
The other gun mat (or over-sized mouse pad) is yet another affirmation of the historical significance of the constitution, our independence and our right to bear arms. Because our founding fathers were able to raise arms against their oppressors we were able to claim our independence and form this great nation. Firearm ownership is more than just an all American past-time and tradition, it is a commitment to uphold the ideals and freedom that was so dearly paid for way back in 1776.
Have a happy, safe and memorable 4th of July!:USA:
