Weapons meant for Pitt film seized in Hungary

BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) — Nearly 100 weapons to be used in Brad Pitt's "World War Z" film were confiscated in Hungary because they had not been properly deactivated, authorities said Tuesday. The weapons included machine guns, rifles and pistols.
The weapons arrived from London to Budapest's Ferenc Liszt Airport on Saturday and were discovered at a nearby duty free zone, Janos Hajdu, head of Hungary's Counterterrorism Center, said. He said he could not confirm they were meant for the film.
"It's possible that all the weapons were brought in for the film, but this would not be allowed by Hungarian law," as the weapons had not been fully deactivated and could easily be used to fire live ammunition, Hajdu said on Neo FM radio. "This is a very complicated case."
Hajdu explained that in Hungary weapons were considered to be deactivated only if the process "was irreversible," while the weapons seized could still be fired even though screws had been used to fill the end of the barrels.
Bela Gajdos, a weapons supervisor for "World War Z," said Mafilm, a Hungarian film company based near Budapest which had the guns brought to Hungary, had the necessary permits, including a detailed list of the weapons in question, issued by local police authorities.
"We had all the permits in order for the weapons to be brought in," Gajdos told The Associated Press by phone. "They were brought in only for this film and are owned by a company in England."
In accordance with British regulations, the weapons were prepared to be used with blank ammunition, Gajdos said, while in Hungary the guns were considered to be "not suitably modified."
Gajdos said he had been questioned by government investigators and that his home in Budapest had been thoroughly searched by security forces before dawn Monday who also confiscated the permits.
Gajdos added that he had not been able to inspect the weapons before the police seized them, but that they would have been checked by him and a Hungarian forensic weapons expert before allowing their use in the film.
Adam Goodman, whose company is providing production services for "World War Z," said he had been advised not to comment on links between the seized weapons and the film.
"We are preparing as planned. We are not changing our schedule," Goodman told the AP. He added that media reports claiming the film set had been raided by police to confiscate the weapons were "not true."

Not sure about anyone else but we RARELY if ever use a sniper to hunt another sniper (not saying it never happens but the situation dictates and I have never witnessed that situation arise for sniper on sniper action), that shit is for the movies. (and if that is all you have been exposed to then I guess that is how you think it's done) We use Apache's, A-10's, superior fire power and any other support we can to take out a area we are being fired from to take out these "snipers".



You know what's involved with deployments bro, I'm sure it's the same with the Brits. You just do not post I'm leaving and then the next day bam there you are in the shit and posting here at the same time.

I found one of my pics on another site, they had a roll back on the forum and all the threads were pushed back to August. I rarely go there so I had missed it when it was 1st posted, but almost all my friends are members there, (despite me trying to get them to come here) a friend mentioned he saw his pic in a thread about U.S SF ( he is Canadian..despite appearances of gear and weapon ) and asked how his pic got there, I took a look at the site and saw the pic in question, I crop all of the pics I show (not just add black boxes but physically cut the pic) so if the question of validity of ownership of the pic ever comes up I can show an un-cropped version. I recognized the pic and the poster who had shared it. I asked many many times while sharing my pics that they remain in AC as a present for those that are members here.

It is my fault in the 1st place and I know better then to show anything publicly . BUT that doesn't excuse the fact that it was shared along with some other confidential stuff I found out about later to that site.

I wasn't mad...till I did a quick Google image search and found that exact pic on some airsoft sites.

The person in question PM'd me here on AC but unfortunately I am unable to reply to PM's or even make one (yes my inbox thingy is empty) if the person is reading this we both made a mistake, me in showing the pics in the 1st place and you for distributing them. so we will call it even.

Most of the pics are from a year or more ago, so are no longer current OPSEC, I have seen other pics I took floating around BUT they were shared by the guy(s) whom I took the pic with/of so they have the right to do with it as they see fit, and if I am in the pic they always ask if it's ok..as I do with them.

also I will most likely not be posting any more mil pics/vids publicly...I haven't decided yet.... If you look down at the bottom of the forum page currently there is 4 members and 41 guests..at one point 10 "guests" where perusing this thread.I don't know who these "guests" are and have no idea what they are doing with my pics or videos and because of the pic fiasco I am now more leery about the whole sharing thing.

What's everyone up to?

I'm in the States, on a brush up course learning about the new toy that has been implemented since we last took the course.

Unfortunetly the course barracks are full and we were put in "overflow" barracks, that look like they have not been used in years :(
so I have been hanging out at a friends who lives here on base to use his internet and stuff.

on Friday after Class we had a BBQ at our friends place here on base, he informed his wife 8 guys were coming over for dinner 2 hours before we showed up :P
We bought all the food and helped cook to lessen the work load on the poor woman.

We spent Saturday in Seattle, watched a movie at the Imax (Real Steel), did some walking around etc etc.

kind of funny story when we went into a surplus store. maybe not funny to you guys but we laughed later.

*** Do not read if you are a Flag waving uber patriot and can't stand to hear when the U.S didn't do something 1st ***

5 of us went into the store 3 Canadians and 2 Americans, when we went inside it was just our group and 2 other random customers, after looking around for a bit an employee came up to us and asked if we were looking for anything, we said we were just looking for some cool looking military type stuff. (playing dumb can be entertaining)

As we strolled around the guy told us about pieces we were looking at, he seemed like he knew what he was talking about and was helpful and happy to impart his knowledge to us.
One of the guys noticed an article of clothing that was like the current U.S issue but a bit off by cloth and color and the design was just a bit different from what he was issued, he didn't mention he recognized it and asked the employee about it, he said it was from a SF guy that sells things to the store regularly, the guys just kind of looked at each other trying not to laugh as the clothing was from the U.S version of our Clothe the Soldier program (whatever it's called by the U.S..future soldier or whatever) and this guy had sold it to the surplus as exclusive SF gear and not as the trial version of what is currently issued.

Later when one of the guys was looking at belts and found a riggers belt with a small pocket sewn in, the employee told him that was a SF belt issued to the 1st SF group out of the local base (Lewis-McChord) and that is why it was different then the other riggers belts, and again we had to stifle a laugh.

The store had sections from all over the world, being Canadian we decided to take a look at what they had from Canada.

We were perusing the items and he was telling us generic things about the items, "this is a cold weather coat" (one of our old Parkas)
"they have a lot of cold weather stuff because it's so cold up there"
The funny part is we are roughly 2 hours from the border, I must have missed the 12 foot wall of snow that starts along our border into the year round winter wonderland that is Canada.

I could see where this conversation was going to end up so I walked away to look and see if they had a canteen cup.
One of the guys noticed old and new uniforms on a rack and went over to see if the CADPAT was real ( it is basically illegal to sell current issued CADPAT in Canada ) so a chance to score more kit for patching holes or adding extra pockets and stuff is always nice. While looking at the newer uniforms the guy went up to my friend and I guess thinking he was an American wanted to tell him all about how the Canadians "STOLE" that pattern idea from the Marines.

They were talking and from where I was I heard a familiar tone coming from my friend...a tone he had used a few times on people who were not co-operating with us, deep and calm and usually followed by a punch to the face. Everyone in our little group had heard that tone so we made our way over to see what was up and maybe restrain our friend from hurting the poor employee.

All I heard as I walked up was "CADPAT was issued to Canadians in 96 as a helmet cover on the new issued helmets", ( along with our Individual cam net nick named the "bat cape" or "superman cape" because of the soldiers first reaction when issued it to put it on like a cape :P )
"AND full uniforms were issued in 99/2000 to the men going to Kosovo and issue of full CADPAT uniforms, rucks and tac vests started in 01 and was finished by 02 and it was NOT stolen from the Americans idea". MARPAT started testing around 01 and was not fully issued to all Marines till something like 04
**CADPAT was the basis for MARPAT.Americans didn't steal the pattern either, it was a collaboration of the 2 countries**

The employee took a step back and seemed to be about to refute my friends statement when one of the guys told him we were in the Military and were a mix of American and Canadians, the employee said he was only repeating what he had been told, my friend said "well you were told wrong"

He excused himself (probably to clean his pants) and we carried on looking around.
He came back later and was apologetic, my friend also apologized for getting mad and explained we get tired of hearing stuff like that represented as fact.
(oddly enough we hear that story often, even from Marines we run into from time to time who should know better)

anyway, that was the interesting part of my Saturday.

Thank you for the concern gutro, but i'm fine, I was at a Aerial platform brush up course in Washington last week, playing with some new toys they want us to field, so I was a bit busy :D

Now i'm in a different battlefield...trying to regain control of my Xbox from my cousin who lives with me..he had unlimited use of it for the 6 or so months I was gone and now doesn't think he needs to share, and I have to almost physically restrain him just so I can play BF3.

When I got to Lewis-McChord it was the day before Ranger Kristoffer Domeij was killed, That put a damper on my time there, I didn't know him but the outpouring of emotion on the base was humbling, and then when I got home my friend was killed. I had not talked to him in a long time but we kept in contact.

I and many of us come here for Combat footage that the media will never show. this is Apacheclips not youtube. Most of us HATE the music. and I have the balls to say it out loud. here is what I do. I click on the ac link to come here I find a video of interest..I open it and BAM there is Music. so I close the page with the video and it goes unwatched. and I move on to the next and guess what ? but I think at the time I typed out that rant. I was upset because every video that seemed to appeal to my interest. had Music on it. and it annoys me to the point of shutting out AC and going else where but let it be known that in reality there is no other site like AC on the internet.. AC is a one of a kind Special place. that is dear to my heart. though I admit..I do not come here as often anymore because the music on the video's drives me away. I am sorry. to the people that spend the time making the video's as a film maker and editor myself I know it is a long process and takes talent and time. but to put music over the natural sounds is one of the most retarded things one can do. now I can understand some music over WW1 and WWII video's because there was no microphones within the camera's and or portable enough to carry on a battle ground. but these days Camera's even a $10 dollar store digital camera has a microphone built in. so there is no need to put music that YOU in your late 60's or 80's will probably not even like that kind of music and for history sake. you ruin the possibility of your video being used by anyone making a documentary not only that but your are infringing on copy rights of the bands that made the music.
but I am not going to get into that. here is another example of where music on a video might be good. you record a video game and you make a kill streak montage well then by all means put some music over it and up it to kidtube I mean youtube.. I am sure you'll get thousands of likes and hits and probably a partnership to earn money for your lame ass music video game montage. anyway. I don't come here almost anymore because the music is horrible. and I don't like to get pissed off and why come somewhere to only be pissed off. . but then I read the comments from user's saying "whats the name of the song" " great song mate" "what band is that" excellent video Mate what's the Name of the Song" so you people are encouraging this practice .. and that drives me absolutely APE SHIT!.

Especially in cases where maybe there isnt music, but the video has been pulled from someone elses youtube or personal vids/pics....its easy for other members to get the idea that these videos might belong to the uploader when really the uploading member only pulled them from other sources. That should also be sited.
