I think people confuse being a Republican with being a Christian . Similarly people confuse being a Democrat with being a liberal. I think most Americans are in the center and actually want whats right for the country. Until there is a 3rd party most Americans will be considered "swing" voters and will vote or who they think will do the least amount of damage to the country

I personally think religion has no place in politics and politics has no place in religion. I'm not atheist and I dont care if the US says 'One nation under god' because god means different things to different people. Running a government based off religious principles overlook basic interests of the people.

For a government the supreme being they need to look up to are the people. Religion needs to be used as a check for moral principles.

I was not even going to ask, but I am just way too curious. How do religious principles, "...overlook basic interests of the people."?

And before you ask, I am not a religious person. I have my beliefs, but they are mine and have no bearing on this conversation. I am just asking for clarification on your statement.
