KABUL, Afghanistan (July 23, 2011) – A combined Afghan and coalition security force killed an insurgent attacker disguised in a woman’s burka during an operation in Charkh district, Logar province, yesterday.
The force was searching for a Taliban facilitator responsible for building and distributing roadside bombs for attacks against the Afghan National Army.
Based on reports from local citizens, the security force searched the suspected facilitator’s compound. The force called for all occupants to exit the building peacefully. While most of the occupants complied with the request, one insurgent, disguised in women’s clothing, attempted to attack the security force. The force fired at him, resulting in his death.
The security force then questioned local residents and, based on the information provided, detained numerous suspected insurgents for further questioning. The force also confiscated materials used to make counterfeit identification documents.

Also in Kandahar, an Afghan-led security force detained two suspected insurgents during a security search yesterday in Panjwa’i district. The force was searching for a Taliban leader responsible for conducting multiple ambushes and roadside bomb attacks against Afghan National Security Forces.
In Shah Joy district, Zabul province, a combined security force detained one suspected insurgent while searching for a Taliban leader, yesterday. The leader conducts roadside bomb attacks against Afghan and coalition forces along Highway 1, and provides support to other Taliban leaders in the area.

Finally, an Afghan-led security force detained several suspected insurgents while searching for a Taliban leader in Charkh district, Logar province, yesterday. The Taliban leader is responsible for planning attacks against Afghan and coalition security forces.
