KABUL, Afghanistan (July 11, 2011) – A combined Afghan National Security and International Security Assistance Force patrol seized a narcotics cache during an operation in Kajran district, Daykundi province, yesterday.
The operation resulted in the seizure of 2,037 pounds (942 kilograms) of opium, 4 pounds (two kgs) of heroin, 110 pounds (50 kgs) of marijuana seeds, 44 pounds (20 kgs) of marijuana, three AK-47 rifles, one SKS rifle, two pistols and 33 pounds (15 kgs) of ammonium nitrate. The narcotics and weapons were safely destroyed on site.

During a security operation in Zharay district, Kandahar province, an Afghan-led security force detained two suspected insurgents and destroyed an unstable explosive ordinance facility.
While searching the area, the security force discovered the facility holding unstable explosives, which posed an imminent threat to local civilians in the area. The force interviewed local residents about the specifics of the facility and, with the information they provided, decided to destroy the explosive ridden facility, eliminating any further threat to residents in the area. All women and children were moved out of the area before the facility was destroyed.
Additionally, several individuals were detained by the security force for further questioning. The force was in the area searching for Taliban insurgents who are involved in weapons facilitation. No civilians were harmed during this operation.
In Deh Rawud district, Uruzgan province, a combined Afghan and coalition force discovered and seized a weapons cache, today. The cache consisted of two AK-47 rifles, two shotguns, one pistol, 100 7.62mm rounds, 34 shotgun rounds, 20 mortar charges, 51 pounds (23 kgs) of ammonium nitrate, one pressure plate, one grenade and several IED making materials. During the operation, several insurgents were detained by security forces.
In two different security operations, combined Afghan and coalition forces discovered two drug caches in Maiwand district, Kandahar province, today. Together, the caches consisted of 220 pounds (100 kgs) of marijuana and 110 pounds (50 kgs) of hashish. All drugs were seized by security forces.
