KABUL, Afghanistan (June 13, 2011) – A coalition force patrol discovered two homemade explosives labs in Musa Khela village, Sayyidabad district, Wardak province, yesterday.

This is an updated report to the homemade explosive material lab and explosive cache discovered in Sayyidabad district, Wardak province which was reported in the ISAF Joint Command morning operational update number 044.

After an improvised explosive device strike, two homemade explosives labs were discovered by the coalition force while waiting for their damaged vehicle to be moved to a safe location. No one was injured by the IED explosion.

The first lab was housed within a madrassa and contained 400 pounds (181 kilograms) of ammonium nitrate and 15 jugs of diesel fuel. The second lab consisted of 400 pounds (181 kgs) of ammonium nitrate and 200 to 300 gallons (757 to 1,136 litres) of diesel fuel.

Ammonium nitrate is a fertilizer commonly used in the manufacturing of IEDs.

The explosive materials were discovered in the same vicinity where 600 pounds (272 kgs) of ammonium nitrate was recovered in mid-April.

The ammonium nitrate was destroyed at the site.

No civilian casualties or structural damage was reported.

A combined Afghan and coalition force operation detained a suspected insurgent leader in Lashkar Gah district, Helmand province June 5.

The detainee is suspected of facilitating the movement of explosives and munitions throughout Helmand and planned suicide attacks against Afghan security forces and ISAF. When Afghan forces detained the suspected insurgent leader, he was in possession of 3,200 Pakistani Rupees (37 U.S. Dollars) and a vehicle that tested positive for recently carrying explosives.

The detainee was taken by Afghan forces for prosecution according to Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan law.

Also in Lashkar Gah district, a combined Afghan and coalition force detained a suspected weapons facilitator, Tuesday.

The detainee is suspected of facilitating the movement of weapons, explosives and narcotics throughout Helmand.

The target was in possession of 27,835 Pakistani Rupees (325 U.S. Dollars).

The detainee was taken by Afghan forces for prosecution according to GIRoA law.

In Garm Ser district, Helmand province, a coalition forces patrol destroyed a drug and chemicals cache yesterday. The cache consisted of 1,135 pounds (515 kgs) of wet opium, 419 pounds (190 kgs) of dry opium and 198 pounds (90 kgs) of chemicals used to manufacture narcotics.

In Zharay district, Kandahar province, a combined Afghan and coalition force discovered a drugs cache, today.

The cache consisted of 882 pounds (400 kgs) of hashish.

In Maiwand district, Kandahar province combined Afghan and coalition force discovered a weapons cache during a security operation, today.

The cache consisted of 13 rolls of detonation cord, 36 mines, three radios, three ICOM antennas and three license plates for vehicle.

All drugs and explosive materials were seized by security forces.
