DOD Identifies Army Casualties
The Department of Defense announced today the deaths of five soldiers who were supporting Operation New Dawn.
They died June 6 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked their unit with indirect fire. They were assigned to the1st Battalion, 7th Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kan.
Killed were:
Spc. Emilio J. Campo Jr., 20, of Madelia, Minn.;
Spc. Michael B. Cook Jr., 27, of Middletown, Ohio;
Spc. Christopher B. Fishbeck, 24, of Victorville, Calif.;
Spc. Robert P. Hartwick, 20, of Rockbridge, Ohio; and
Pfc. Michael C. Olivieri, 26, Chicago, Ill.

Five Big Red One soldiers killed in action in Iraq

FORT RILEY, Kan. – The 1st Infantry Division is mourning the loss of five Big Red One Soldiers who died in Iraq, June 6.
Spc. Emilio Campo, Pfc. Michael Cook, Pfc. Christopher Fishbeck, Spc Robert Hartwick, and Pfc. Michael Olivieri were killed when insurgents launched an indirect fire attack on their base.
The soldiers were assigned to 1st Battalion, 7th Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, and were deployed to Iraq in support of Operation New Dawn.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of these young heroes and our thoughts and prayers go out to their families,” said Lt. Col. Andrew Gainey, the soldiers’ battalion commander.
“They were all outstanding soldiers, outstanding people, and most importantly, our good friends.”
Each of the five soldiers had served less than two years in the Army. This was their first duty station and none had previously deployed.
Campo, 20, of Madelia, Minn., was a combat medic. He joined the Army in July 2009.
Cook, 27, of Middletown, Ohio, was a field artillery tactical data systems operator who joined the Army in October 2009. He has been posthumously promoted to the rank of specialist.
Fishbeck, 24, of Victorville, Calif., was a field artillery tactical data systems operator who joined the Army in October 2009. He has been posthumously promoted to the rank of specialist.
Hartwick, 20, of Rockbridge, Ohio, was a combat medic. He joined the Army in June 2009.
Olivieri, 26, of Chicago, Ill., was a field artillery tactical data systems operator who joined the Army in January 2010.
The 2nd Heavy Brigade Combat Team deployed to Iraq in November 2010, and serves as the 2nd Advise and Assist Brigade, supporting the development of Iraq security forces and the improvement of civil capacity in central Iraq.
