KABUL, Afghanistan (May 22, 2011) – Afghan and coalition forces discovered several weapons caches during security operations in Chorah district, Uruzgan province, yesterday.

The caches consisted of 58 grenades, 13 grenades fuses, four radios, nine radio handsets, propellant and several fuses.

All the weapons and materials have been or will be destroyed by security forces.

In Zharay district, Kandahar province, an Afghan and coalition force discovered a drug cache yesterday.

The cache consisted of 11,023 pounds (5,000 kilograms) of hashish.

All drugs were destroyed by security forces.

In Nahr-e Saraj district, Helmand province, a three-day operation conducted by an Afghan and coalition force led to discovery of a weapons cache, yesterday.

The weapons cache consisted of 33 pressure plates, two AK-47 assault rifles, 600 7.62 mm rounds, one rocket propelled-grenade launcher, four RPGs, one PKM machine gun, several improvised explosive devices, two 105 mm rounds filled with homemade explosives and several IED making materials.

During the operation several insurgents were also detained and taken by Afghan authorities for processing and further questioning.

All the weapons were destroyed by security forces.
