KABUL, Afghanistan (May 2, 2011) – An Afghan and coalition force patrol captured a senior Taliban leader during clearing operations in Baghlan-e Jadid district, Baghlan province, yesterday.
The detainee is believed to have led more than 60 fighters along the Kandahari belt of Baghlan province and was responsible for numerous suicide bombings throughout the region.
Several additional individuals were taken into custody during the operation.

A combined Afghan and coalition patrol in Maiwand district, Kandahar province found a weapons and drug cache today. The cache consisted of 3,000 pounds (1,361 kilograms) of marijuana, a jug of wet opium, an AK-47 rifle, shotgun shells and an ammunition can. One person was detained in connection with the find.
Also in Kandahar, a combined Afghan and coalition patrol discovered a weapons cache of 11 grenades in Arghandab district, today.
All weapons and drugs have been, or will be destroyed by security forces.
