KABUL, Afghanistan (April 14, 2011) – A combined Afghan coalition patrol killed numerous insurgents and detained several suspected insurgents during an operation in Kajran district, Daykundi province, yesterday.
The insurgents were killed when they attempted to engage the patrol with small-arms fire. The combined patrol also secured several rifles, 2,000 rounds of ammunition, a pistol, a small amount of opium and two motorcycles. The detainees were taken by Afghan authorities for processing and further questioning.

The 8th Commando Kandak, advised and assisted by coalition special operations forces, conducted a clearing operation in Shah Joy district, Zabul province yesterday, which led to the capture of a mid-level Taliban leader. The combined force captured the leader after a tip from local villagers. The man surrendered peacefully to the Afghan commando force without incident.
Afghan and coalition forces patrols discovered two weapons caches in Panjwa’i district, Kandahar province today, consisting of two rocket-propelled grenades, two AK-47 rifles, 500 7.62 mm rounds, 500 12.7 mm rounds, eight empty AK-47 magazines and six 81 mm rounds.
In the same district, a combined force discovered 198 pounds (90 kilograms) of hashish. The drugs were destroyed by security forces.
Also in Kandahar province, Arghandab district, today, a combined patrol found 150 PKM rounds, one dagger, one radio amplifier, one AK-47, one machine gun, 39 7.62 mm rounds, two grenade fuses, one radio, one full AK-47 magazine and various loose ammunition.
In Daman district, Kandahar province, yesterday, an Afghan and coalition forces patrol discovered 194 bags totalling 426 pounds (193 kilograms) of narcotics, which were destroyed by security forces.
In Marjah district, Helmand province, today, a coalition forces patrol found 103 7.62 x 39 mm rounds.

A combined Afghan and coalition forces patrol detained a suspected Taliban financier and improvised explosive device facilitator, along with numerous suspected insurgents during an operation in Alisheng district, Laghman province, today.
The suspect was detained without incident and taken by Afghan authorities for processing and further questioning. The combined force found finance ledgers, numerous rifles, handguns, small-arms ammunition and assorted IED making materials.
The suspect was arrested by Afghan authorities and taken, along with numerous other suspected insurgents for processing and further questioning.
An Afghan and coalition forces patrol discovered a weapon cache in Khost district, Khost province, today, consisting of 200 bags of ammonium nitrate, 31 bags of fuses, three pistols and 40 spools of detonation cord.
In Dzadran district, Paktiya province, today, an Afghan and coalition forces patrol discovered 150 PKM rounds, two tactical vests, one AK-47 and one rifle.
All weapons have been or will be destroyed by security forces.
