KABUL, Afghanistan (Feb. 20, 2011) — International Security Assistance Force confirmed a Taliban weapons facilitator was detained by local villagers and turned over to the coalition forces operating in the region after an Afghan and coalition operation in Qalat district, Zabul province, Feb. 17
The Taliban weapons facilitator was involved in small and heavy arms weapons trade and distribution in Shah Joy district for attacks against Afghan and coalition forces.
In other Afghan and coalition operations, ISAF confirms two Taliban leaders were detained in Helmand and Kandahar provinces Feb. 16 and 18.
In Helmand province, the Taliban leader and IED facilitator operated in Babaji and Malgir villages of Nahr-e Saraj district where he led attacks against Afghan and coalition forces. He led a group of 50 to 60 Taliban insurgents who were planning to attack a forward operating base in the district. The insurgent group has multiple recoilless rifles, rocket propelled grenades and small arms in their possession, according to recent reporting.
In Kandahar province, the Arghandab district-based Taliban leader was responsible for training Taliban insurgents and coordinated suicide attacks, ambushes and improvised explosive device attacks against Afghan and coalition forces.

In Ghaziabad district, Kunar province, during two separate operations, ISAF patrols observed an unknown number of insurgents moving to a known fighting position. After gaining positive identification, coalition forces engaged the enemy positions with small-arms fire and close air support. Initial reporting indicates no civilian casualties.
