KABUL, Afghanistan (Feb. 2, 2011) – One Afghan civilian was killed and one was wounded during an 9808improvised explosive attack in Chorah district, Uruzgan province, today. Special Operations Troops captured a high level international terrorist financer in Nangahar yesterday.
Seven bad guys were killed in Kunar and an Haqqani leader and his partner were captured in Khowst.
In other International Security Assistance Force news throughout Afghanistan:
NANGAHAR, Afghanistan – Soldiers from 2nd Company, 1st Commando Kandak and Special Operations Task Force – East captured a high-level Taliban leader in Chaparhar district, Nangahar province Feb. 2.
The Afghan-led force was conducting clearing operations in the area in order to disrupt the insurgent haven.
The detainee is a known insurgent financier, through an international drug smuggling network, which spans Iran, India, Tajikistan and Europe. He is also known to have facilitated the movement of foreign fighters through the district.
The Afghan National Army Commandos have custody of the detainee and will question him further.
South
An ISAF patrol in Garm Ser district, Helmand province discovered an improvised explosive device and while securing the area and setting up a security cordon, found an additional 11 IEDs emplaced. All of the devices were pressure-plate activated and consisted of 60 pounds (27 kilograms) of explosives. The IEDs were destroyed with controlled detonations.
In Panjwa’i district, Kandahar province, an Afghan Nation Security Forces and ISAF patrol found a cache consisting of 21 105 mm rounds and 10 artillery shells. An Afghan National Security Forces and ISAF patrol discovered a drug cache in Garm Ser district, Helmand province consisting of 16 100-120 pound (45-54 kilograms) bags of marijuana.
East
Afghan and coalition forces detained a Haqqani Network facilitator and one suspected insurgent during a security operation in Sabari district, Khost province yesterday.
The facilitator operated out of Sabari district where he conducted improvised explosive devices attacks against Afghan and coalition forces in the area.
Security forces followed leads to a targeted building where Afghan forces called for all occupants to exit peacefully before conducting a search. The facilitator and one suspected insurgent were detained based on initial questioning at the scene.
In Darah-ye Pech district, Kunar province, an ISAF patrol received small arms fire from an unknown number of insurgents. After gaining positive identification, coalition forces returned small arms fire, killing seven insurgents.
In Shaybar district, Bamyan province, an ISAF patrol found a weapons cache consisting of 126 107 mm rocket propellant charges, five large propellant sticks and one anti-tank mine.
In Salang district, Parwan province, an ISAF patrol found three 115 mm unexploded ordnances, five 82 mm mortars and one rocket-propelled grenade.
The drugs and weapons have been or will be confiscated and destroyed.

In Paghman district, Kabul City Police found one missile, one mortar and four anti-personnel mines.
The weapons were confiscated and will be destroyed.
