KABUL, Afghanistan (Jan. 27, 2011) – Two insurgents were killed by International Security Assistance Force in southern Afghanistan today.

In Helmand province, during a security operation, coalition forces observed from an ISAF patrol base several armed insurgents moving towards a historical fighting location in Musa Qal’ah district. After gaining positive identification, coalition forces engaged the enemy position with anti-armour missiles, killing the insurgents.

Also today, Afghan National Security Forces and ISAF discovered several caches in eastern, southern and western Afghanistan.

In Laghman, Uruzgan, Helmand, Kandahar and Herat provinces, Afghan National Security forces and ISAF patrols found weapons and improvised explosive device-making components caches in Mehtar Lam, Tarin Kot, Chorah, Marjah, Kandahar and Shindad districts. The caches consisted of one AK-47, 200 anti-personnel mines, seven rocket-propelled grenade warheads, 21 mortar fuses, one rocket booster, 900 7.62 mm rounds, 1,800 .303 caliber rounds and four pressure plates.

In Mughab district, Badghis province, Afghan civilians turned in to Afghan National Army a weapons cache consisting of one RPG and six cluster bombs.

Initial reports indicate no civilians were injured and no damage was reported during the clearing operations. The weapons and IED making components from all the provinces were confiscated and will be destroyed.
