OTTAWA — Ottawa police traffic officers issued 305 provincial offence tickets over the Thanksgiving weekend, a traditionally traffic-heavy time.
Operation Impact, a co-ordinated effort with police forces nationwide — including Ontario Provincial Police — took place from Friday through Monday. The Road Safety Vision 2010 project is aimed at making Canada's roads the safest in the world by focusing on seatbelts, impaired driving, child restraints and aggressive driving.
The charges laid in the City of Ottawa are broken down as follows:
- Seatbelt infractions: 81
- Aggressive driving: 16
- Speeding: 112
- Impaired driving: 0
- Distracted driving (drivers using cell phones, iPods, et cetera): 6
- Miscellaneous documents (licences, permits, equipment, et cetera): 94
