U.S. drone strikes in Pakistan kill 18 militants

Two U.S. drone planes killed 18 militants in Pakistan today, say intelligence officials.
The attacks came within hours of each other in the town of Datta Khel in the North Waziristan tribal region along the Afghanistan border.
An official said: 'In the first attack two missiles were fired at a house while in the second four missiles targeted a house and a vehicle.'

America has widened pilot-less drone aircraft missile raids against Al Qaeda-linked militants in Pakistan's north-west, with a record 21 attacks in September alone.
Angered by repeated incursions by Nato helicopters over the past week, Pakistan blocked a supply route for coalition troops in Afghanistan after one such strike killed three Pakistani soldiers on Thursday in the north-western Kurram region.
Pakistan is a crucial ally for the U.S. in its efforts to pacify Afghanistan, but analysts say border incursions and disruptions in Nato supplies underline growing tensions in the relationship.
A large number of Arab, Chechen and Central Asian insurgents have taken shelter with Pakistani militants in the lawless tribal regions on the Afghan border after fleeing the war in Afghanistan in late 2001.
Meanwhile, militants in Pakistan set fire to three dozen tankers carrying fuel for Nato troops in Afghanistan on Friday, officials said. The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.
