MESA, Ariz. – A man allegedly wielding a machete-type knife was shot multiple times by Mesa police officers.
Police say a woman called 911 just after 4 p.m. Thursday saying her 35-year-old son was acting strange and was acting suicidal.
When officers arrived on scene the mother left the apartment. Her son allegedly then walked out towards officers with the machete.
The officers say they feared for their safety and shot the man multiple times. He reportedly underwent surgery as a result of his wounds and his medical condition is unknown at this time.
The officers involved in the shooting have been either re-assigned or are on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
