A CAMPAIGN of “civil disobedience” will be waged unless the Government gives police and local authorities more powers to remove illegal gypsy camps, an MP has warned.
Tory Heather Wheeler claims householders will no longer put up with travellers flouting the law and are ready to take matters into their own hands.

Since February there have been 24 illegal campsites set up in her constituency of South Derbyshire, leaving a trail of destruction in an area where there are authorised pitches. She said: “That is why it is so galling. When we do the right thing, we are taken for mugs.
“We are fed up. We will not put up with it any more. There will be civil disobedience over the issue.”
She backs calls to give police powers to arrest travellers within 24 hours of them trespassing.
Communities Secretary Eric Pickles plans to clamp down on unauthorised camps but has said travellers who “play by the rules” will get more rights.
