View Full Version : Overall Rule changes - Please all read
Stark

By now some of you may have seen that we changed the comment rules to three basic rules.
1: No baseless attacks
2: No LINKING or POSTING of pornographic material
3: No obvious trolling
This is part of ongoing changes and work to adapt to the way AC has developed over the years – In a nutshell we are trying to moderate AC more efficient.
Questions:
Baseless attack: Does this mean I get timed out if I call somebody XXX ?
Answer: It depends on the context – if you simply call somebody XXX without any explanation, we consider such a comment a baseless attack.
Question: I though AC was freedom of speech?
Answer: We are but there has to be a limit to everything in order to ensure that the majority of members get along.
Question: Why the rule changes, weren’t the rules working before?
Answer: We feel we need to adapt the rules to make it a) easier for the Moderators to do their job b) Give members a greater sense of freedom when commenting.
Ultimately we want our Members to comment in an articulated intelligent and adult fashion however we recognize that at times when the going gets tough the
Though gets going and tempers flare – moderators have been in structured to only step in if things get out of hand – in the near future we will have completed our
Members infraction method to automate the way we warn and educate members – for the moment anybody who needs a reminder of the rules will be contacted
Via pm by a friendly member of that AC staff – please follow instructions accordingly.
That is all.

the word to remember is "obvious" trolling.
So somebody who enteres a 9/11 thread and comments: 9/11 planed and executed by the jews = Obvious troll.
Somebody who comments: I really have my doubts if 9/11 did happen the way everybody says it happend ... etc. = not obvious trolling but more stating your opinion.
We will not timout members that share a different view than others - the day that happens on a regular basis is the day I close down AC.
Overall trolls are hard to find - its all down to perception.

There are alot of "obvious" trolls....the most annoying of the bunch are what I will call "bait trolls".....they touch subjects with comments to bait members into arguments....not open discussions of topics but deliberate bating techniques.....these are the worst of the bunch

Thats why we have the recomendations (dont feed the trolls - learn to ignore comments)

Right. We are well aware of "baiting" .
It goes back to Stark's "Obvious troll" definition.
If they bait and cannot sustain a argument with knowledge and resort to the usual trollish replies they will get dealt with.
The only thing is....it has to be an obvious troll. It cannot be someone that has an opposing view than yourself or other members.
You know how many times I have recieved complaints saying that partizan is a "terrorist troll"? because he has posted touchy pictures or made touchy comments in his own defense....
It's silly.

Can Stark and the moderaters consider blurring the faces of allied troops dying or dead in photos?
It still allows the image to post but shows respect for our troops and their family and friends as well as not giving a jihadist propaganda to use on their sites.

thats not possible, only the uploader can do that.

Yeah what Scott said. Also these recent combat trauma photos such as the ones partizan posted....are photos taken by and released to the media and other sources by the Army/embedded media. It's not like partizan or some jihadist took the photos themselves.
I understand your concern....trust me. However there is a difference.
Also e-jihadist do not use or need AC for their material.

Well I did see Partizan black out the eyes of his recent post which is greatly appreciated.
On the e-jihadist issue if those images that partizan has posted recently they were not even 2 weeks old if all info was accurate. If the DOD releases them that quick and without protecting their identities I would like to know what website that is because I have been on all branch sites and the DOD dvids etc and never have seen that graphic of images.
Thats fucking horrible if that is the case.

Stark intelligent policy change - however, members with a political or philosophical perspective contrary to the USA doctrinaire clique would still accumulate hundreds of neg karmas,
so that system effectively inhibits free speech or anything resembling debate. The whole karma concept is deeply flawed - more of a popularity contest than anything of real value.
It’s obvious, all the European dudes are completely intimidated from opinions that could have the slightest perceived affront to the honor of the American soldier or the righteousness and
correctness of American’s wars. I’d love to hear some real unvarnished opinions from Germans, Swiss, Spanish peeps - but look at the shit they put Partisan through.
Please stand up to the hyper-sensitive bullies that think they run your site.

Shark,
I agree with you to an extent, however the Karma is simply peoples opinions on what was said. They either favor or dislike the comments that were made. The Karma should not prevent somebody from saying what they think or feel providing it is relevant to the discussion at hand.
Stark,
Is there a way to report a potential troll? I'm sure the more active users have their own suspicions and in turn could potentially help track and identify trolls. At least it would draw attention to the subject at hand for mods to monitor that person's activity a little closer and focus on them until they determine if they are or not a troll.

I think it's safe to say that opinions differ, and that standing up to "hyper-sensitive bullies" would imply that there's sensitivities on both sides. As for simply being bullies, the concept on the internet without any real world tie in's, is... a joke.
Anytime you have an opinion based system it is going to be "flawed" so I don't quite understand the point of posting what you did. (Especially considering it's a thread stating rule changes, rather than a thread suggesting how to moderate the site.)
To summarize, I believe these rule changes for the better of the site in general, and while opinions may differ, what you suggest is more so opinion and disagreements rather than any rule violations.

Come on man....
It's all about how you post and who your AC friends are. Partizan has been up and down the karma spectrum and he is still green.
If you are truly devoted to your beliefs you would post regardless of the karma threat.
The problem is people that usually talk about the United States and it's foreign policies cannot hang. They resort in trolling.
Also, take this for example.....you have a member form the UK talking about about the U.S. and the so-called atrocities it has committed after 9/11. You will get negative karma for the simple fact that you cannot talk shit because England is just as guilty for world atrocities. You see what I mean? Hypocrites get negative karma quicker than anything.
It's all about your approach, intelligence level and the ability to hang with your postings.
There are plenty of people that oppose "American Views" on AC that have tons of positive karma. They stay on top because they do not post like douchebags.
Same thing goes for us Americans....there are plenty of people with ultra-american views that rack up negative karma but their friends counter it with a friendly thumbs up.
This is how partizan survives the karma system. He has a lot of friends and a great following....his people look after him.
If you rack up -300 karma then it's the your own fault for letting it get that way.

Hey Gut,
If you suspect someone of being a troll just PM a Moderator,we all read our PMs and it will be investigated. Members send me PMs quite a bit giving me a heads up on a suspected troll.
We have a great troll destroyer team. Toke and Cav have been putting in work.....they have been stealing all my troll kills :D
PM any of us and the suspected troll will be investigated.
Keyword Obvious Troll....it cannot simply be someone opposing the "majority" in the debate with their opinions.

i think Partizan is brought into almost every subject now, i value him deeply here at AC... hes been through alot of shit here and he is still here commited to uploading, keeping everyone notified and happy/ most of the time happy.
hes a great example, he sticks to his beleifs and and expresses them, if he sticks up for himself he gets neg karma, hes still here and that goes to show he has alot of friends here including myself.
The Karma System is not deeply flawed at all, its the way you handle it, its not a popularity contest either, if people like your comment their thumb the comment up, if not then they do a thumbs down its simple, this is what its here for.
Its great for making the Staff here aware of who are the obvious trolls/pissing the community of so much.
-------
To report potential Trolls, you simply send a a staff member a PM/ or you can always create a thread here/ only yourself and staff will be able to see the thread no1 else.

For crying out loud....I know, you know, we all know when someone gets neg. karma for being an asshole. If you act like you have even a little bit of senses when you comment these guys aren't going to boot your ass.Even if you do get a shit load of neg. karma.

The fact of the matter is, if Player1 never breaks the rules but gets so many neg karma points for stating his opinion and then appeals the timeout, we will just take him out of timeout.
Theres absolutly no need to worry about this.... we have your backs!

Part 1. SAY WHAT? This must be a parallel universe - where there are an infinite number of possible realities - all unaware of each other.
Part 2. Karmas; Partisan has 600 positives and 1400 media and LIarry, the forum Don Rickles of insults has 2500 positives? Go figure!

Shark,
You really don't need to worry about karma. These guys aren't going to boot you for no reason. If your karma gets low enough for a time out, it just means they need to review your stats and things you say. If you follow rules and back up your opinion then you'll be able to play again. If you're just a trash talking troll then you'll be gone.
Bottom line, have some context behind what you're saying, don't abuse the system, and you'll have nothing to worry about.

Karma is Karma --
Karma is a Sanskrit word that means "action." Karma has commonly been considered a punishment for past bad actions, but karma is neither judge nor jury. Rather, it is simply the universal law of cause and effect that says every thought, word and act carries energy into the world and affects our present reality. Karma can also refer to the "work" we have ahead of us, which includes lessons from both our past and present lives.
