AUGUSTA, Maine — A magazine is calling the University of Maine at Augusta one of the friendliest colleges to military veterans.
GI Jobs Magazine on Monday cited UMA as a Military Friendly School. The designation places the school in the top 15 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools that do the most to embrace veterans as students.
UMA's Military Achievement Project has added staff to support veterans, opened two new veteran lounges in Augusta and Bangor, implemented a veteran peer mentor program, designated special courses for veterans and launched entrepreneurial training for veterans.
The project is funded in part through a $100,000 grant from the American Council of Education/Wal-Mart Foundation.
