MARTIN, Tenn. — A statue honoring a soldier killed in combat has been stolen.
WCMT radio said Tuesday that Martin Police Captain Don Teal has asked the public for help. The statue is believed to have been taken Friday or Saturday.
The statue was erected by the family of Sgt. Dustin Laird. It has twice been vandalized and repaired.
In 2008, two people from Martin confessed they painted a skull over the face of the statue and doused it with red paint. The head and arms were broken off in May 2010.
Laird was killed in 2005 by an improvised roadside bomb while serving in Iraq.
